Possum Point Players capture four awards at statewide festival

Mar 08, 2013

The Delaware Theatre Association's DTAFest 2013, a statewide one-act play competition, was held all day March 2 at the home of the Possum Point Players in Georgetown. Five theater groups from all over the state competed for a chance to move on to regional and national competitions.

The Possum Point Players' entry, "27 Wagons Full of Cotton," with cast members Fred Dean of Georgetown, Chuck Rafferty of Rehoboth Beach and Jill Lewandowski of Bridgeville, won Best Production Runner-Up. They have been declared eligible to participate in the Eastern States Theatre Association Festival which will be held in Rome, N.Y., April 19-21. If they are successful there, they will be eligible for the American Association of Community Theatre’s Fest 2013 National Festival, June 17-23 in Carmel, Ind.

In addition to runner-up placement for the performance, Possum Point Players participants also won adjudicator awards for Best Director, Jim Debastiani of Georgetown; Best Performance by an Actress, Jill Lewandowski; and Best Makeup, Beth Howlett of Millsboro.

Local festival chairman and current PPP Vice President Kenney Workman thanked his many volunteers for all their hard work which culminated in a wonderful and very successful event. “The many people from up and down the state who came to Possum Hall for the first time were very impressed with our beautiful facility and raved about our Southern hospitality," said Workman. “I think we can be extremely proud of our production, our volunteers and staff, and the place we call home.”

Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information go to www.possumpointplayers.org.
