Possum Point Players to hold audition for spring musical Jan. 5 and 7

Directors Jim Hartzell and Donna de Kuyper and the Possum Point Players have scheduled auditions for the award-winning Broadway musical "South Pacific," with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan, at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 5, and Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Highway in Georgetown.

Auditions will consist of a short musical presentation of the auditioner’s choice, readings from the script, and some dance movement. Those wishing to audition should bring their own music, but piano accompaniment will be available. There are several nonsinging roles available for adult males, and possibly dancers.

With stage direction by Jim Hartzell of Georgetown and assistant director Donna de Kuyper of Lewes, musical direction by Liz Messick of Laurel and choreography by Autumn Schneider of Lewes, "South Pacific" is projected to have a cast of 20 to 30.  Directors are looking for cast members who appear to be in the age range of 18 to 60-plus. There are also two children, age 6 to 10.

Set in an island paradise during World War II, two couples in love are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. "South Pacific" is Rogers and Hammerstein's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic which garnered 10 Tony awards, nine Donaldson Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
