Pot Nets man charged with abuse of his mother
A Millsboro man, 49, faces an abuse and assault charges after police say he neglected his infirm mother.
David T. Lee of the 34000 block of Meadow Lane, Pot Nets Bayside, had been caring for his mother, 69, who was impaired due to an illness, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Adult Protective Services became involved in the case October 2012, but Lee became uncooperative with nurses and failed to take care of his mother in a proper manner, Fournier said. As a result, the woman was injured in part due to neglect, he said.
EMS employees removed the woman from her home April 10 and took her to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was admitted.
Police issued a warrant for Lee's arrest and on April 11 a trooper spotted Lee driving erratically south of School Lane near Long Neck Road, Fournier said.
Police arrested Lee and charged him with his fourth driving under the influence charge, second-degree assault, intentional abuse or neglect of an infirm adult, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic violations.
He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $16,200 cash bail.
