Prime Hook Nature Photography Contest open through Oct. 11

Aug 06, 2014

The Friends of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge Inc. is now accepting entries for the Eleventh Annual Nature Photography Contest. It’s a showcase for some of the best and most talented nature photography on Delmarva.

The contest is open to all photographers, including separate categories for students, and attracts hundreds of entries every fall. There are several categories with many chances to win awards for photographers of all ages and abilities. This year will again feature a special award for winners in The Beauty of Prime Hook category.

Photographs will be on display from Oct. 18 to Dec. 14, kicking off with an opening reception for the artists and the general public at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, during the Refuge’s Discover the Outdoors Day scheduled from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Viewers will again decide the People’s Choice Award, which will be presented at the conclusion of the exhibition.

Entries in the annual nature photography contest highlight the unique and beautiful landscapes and wildlife of Delmarva, ranging from soaring ospreys to majestic herons and sun-dappled wildflowers.

Jerry am Ende of Wilmington won last year’s competition with a lovely photograph of a belted kingfisher.

To be entered in the contest, photographs must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Refuge Office on or before Oct. 11. The refuge address is 11978 Turkle Pond Road, Milton, DE 19968. Refuge hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

The entry fee is $5 per photograph or six entries for $25 and must be included with the submitted photographs. Student entries are free.
