Proud grandmother reports update

By Frances McIlveen | Mar 23, 2013

Here's the proud grandmother again from Punta Gorda, Fla., to give readers an update on Capt. George McElveen's fishing exploits since our last communication in July, 2008.

So many tournaments won since and many articles in different fishing magazines. There is also a new reality show titled “Reel Rivals,” scheduled to show on the Weather Channel and featuring four captains from Bud and Mary's Marina in Islamadora, Fla. on or about May 6 of this year in which Capt. McIlveen shows his lifestyle and fishing skills.

Capt. McIlveen is also traveling the world in a 65-foot vessel called the Swagger, participating in all the big billfish tournaments. He still owns Real McCoy in Islamadora at Bud and Mary's Marina. He still takes out charters on that boat when he's in town - but when he is out of town, he has a very competent, experienced captain and mates taking his charters.

Capt. George stops at nothing!

We will never forget and be eternally grateful to Capt. Dale Parsons at Fisherman's Wharf in Lewes for giving a young man a chance to follow his dreams.

I just wish his pop and namesake had been able to live to see his boy achieve so much. He always said: “George could catch a fish in a mud puddle.”
