Rain, rain, GO AWAY!
There seems to finally be a good solution to the PED problem in baseball... except for you know who! On Aug. 5., Major League Baseball announced that it has suspended 12 out of 13 players for 50 games each for their use of PEDs, except for Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod's suspension is longer because of the alleged hiding and destroying of documents that would have helped in proving his involvement. He is appealing his suspension with the New York Yankees and will continue to play until the matter is heard. The main reason he is appealing is because of the length of his penalty which would have him removed for over 200 games taking him out of play until 2015. We will see what happens. This could take the rest of the season to be decided, and in the meantime he will have to step up to the plate and endure the jeers and booing. It will be interesting to see how this affects him and his performance as well as the demeanor of the public as the weeks go by.
This decision affected only one Phillies player. Antonio Bastardo will be out 50 games, making him eligible to play the last game of the 2013 season. That's not all that bothersome since the Phillies have no chance to make the playoffs this year. I hope the Phillies organization will actually get to the bottom of what transpired and then determine whether Bastardo should return in 2014.
In golf this is PGA Championship week. It's the last chance in men's golf to win a major championship for this year. It is being played in Rochester, N. Y. at Oak Hill Country Club. The last time the tournament was played there was in 2003 and Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods didn't do anything worth reflecting on. They are both currently playing very well coming into this year's tournament with Tiger winning last weekend at the Bridgestone Invitational and Phil having won the British Open. It always makes for good TV when they are on their game.
It sure would be nice for the weather to cooperate a bit more for us to close out the official summer here in lower Delaware. It's going to make for a long winter if we don't see some consecutive sunny weeks!
