The Rehoboth Art League’s Juried Drawing Showcase will be open weekends at the historic Homestead in Henlopen Acres from Saturday, March 8 through March 23. This exhibition is the first of a series of special Members Showcases for 2014.

The member showcases will provide RAL members an exclusive opportunity to exhibit their work at the art league. Each showcase will have a certain theme and all works will be reviewed and juried by a panel assembled by the exhibitions manager.

Drawing is an important part of creating any type of visual art. From the masterful figurative drawings of Leonardo and Rembrandt, to the expressive child-like lines of Cy Twombly, drawing captures the essence of artistic intent and demonstrates the emotive power of mark-making. The show features 25 works created by 10 artists. Mediums represented are: pencil, graphite, colored pencil, ink, pastel, molding paste, and charcoal.

"The works chosen for the Member's Drawing Showcase are varied in subject, technique, and medium. Included are figurative works made up of gestural marks, anatomical drawings of bones that feature lines that are as sensitive as they are powerful, energetic yet delicate abstractions, as well as realistic renderings of local sites and architecture, “ explained John Mosher, art league exhibitions manager.

The opening for the Drawing Showcase is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 8. At the same time the annual Young at Art exhibition will be showing in the main Corkan Galleries, also through March 23. On that Saturday, Brooke Rogers, chair of the art department at Salisbury University, is visiting the RAL to review high school student portfolios.

The Corkran galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. In March, the Homestead is open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. The openings are free and the public is invited to attend.
