RAL showcases artists Jack Knight and Martha Spak through April 28Special artists' reception April 5
Jack Knight and Martha Spak are the featured artists in the Corkran and Tubbs galleries at the Rehoboth Art League through Sunday, April 28. A special reception, Opening of Four: No Reservation Required, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 5.
From outside the Corkran Gallery, the vibrant colors of Jack Knight’s abstract paintings seem to light up the gallery, almost signifying spring has arrived. This exhibit, Jack Knight: Recent Work, includes 29 original paintings based on various presentations of a free-form image that looks similar to marble.
"Knight's bold acrylic and enamel paintings are related to the visual trickery of op art and hard edges of artists like Kenneth Noland and Frank Stella, but these works have a second-generation complexity and thoughtfulness, rather than the force of a fresh discovery," writes reviewer Christine Temin of The Boston Globe.
To learn more about Jack Knight’s work, guests are welcome to attend an artist's talk and demo at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 20, in the Corkran Gallery or visit www.artistjackknight.com.
"Light Fantastic" is an apt description for the feeling one has walking into the Tubbs Gallery filled with 20 of Martha Spak’s new seascapes and special scenes of Delmarva landscapes. "Clouds are the sentiment of a painting and can convey the season and even the hour. These paintings capture the warmth of a summer sky while observing the unique cloud forms, colors and energy," Spak says of this body of work. Her collection of expressive art reflects moods, lifestyles and surroundings. The original oil paintings convey rich tones and vibrant elegance.
Spak will host a workshop, Creating Atmosphere in Seascapes, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 6, in the Tubbs Gallery. Visit www.marthaspak.com for further information about the artist and to view the scope of her other paintings and photographs.
The April 5 reception for Jack Knight: Recent Work, Martha Spak: Light Fantastic, Robert B. Wright: Final Proof and Art is Healing: Healing is an Art is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday. The Wright exhibit in the historic Homestead is open weekends through April 28.
