RAL starts summer classes early with May 17 Art Project Saturday

May 01, 2014

Summer brings sun, surf and sand lovers to Rehoboth every year. Another popular activity is the summer camps and classes at the Rehoboth Art League.

New this summer is the addition of an off-site location for some classes at the Lewes library, including several drawing and painting classes. Drawing for Kids, ages 8-12, will teach basic principles of drawing. Drawing for Teens, ages 12-18, will cover basic to intermediate drawing skills including line, shading, value, blending and rendering. Painting for Kids, ages 8-12, includes the basic principles of painting with watercolors including water-to-paint ratio and several techniques. The classes will be held during June, July and August and range from $35 to $85. Early registration is suggested, as classes fill up quickly.

The main campus at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres, offers many camps. Drawing camps, held in June, July and August, include Design Your Favorite Room with Cassie Taggart, Creating Paper Mache Animals, Inventive Graphic Design, Learn the Pottery Wheel and more. A full listing appears at rehobothartleague.org or pick up a camp brochure from the RAL.

Other great classes include Art Project Saturdays for kids May 17, 24, 31 and June 7 for ages 8-12; Teen Mixed Media Journal Making June 9-13, and Cupcakes and Canvas, May 23, an in-service day in local schools. Several pottery workshops are also offered beginning in May.

“Summer camps are a great alternative to sports camps. These camps utilize many mediums: pottery, drawing, painting, 3D, STEAM initiatives, writing and more. And your child gets to experience 3 acres of beautifully wooded campus and fully stocked art studios with instructors who make camps fun!” said Kim Klabe, Rehoboth Art League education director.

Founded in 1938, the Rehoboth Art League provides exhibitions and instruction in fine arts and crafts to children and adults. The league is a member-based nonprofit organization, the buildings and grounds of which are free and open to the public.
