RBFS and CHEF present 'Werther' Live in HD March 15
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcast of Massenet’s sublime opera “Werther” at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Cape Henlopen High School theater in Lewes. This production is the sixth opera in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of live simulcast transmissions for the 2013-14 season.
In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings.
Two of opera’s greatest artists, Jonas Kaufmann and Elīna Garanča, appear together for the first time at the Met as the brooding poet Werther and his unattainable love, Charlotte. Rising young maestro Alain Altinoglu conducts Massenet’s adaptation of Goethe’s revolutionary and tragic romance. Lisette Oropesa sings the role of Sophie, Charlotte’s sister; David Bižić makes his Met debut as Charlotte’s fiancé, Albert; and Jonathan Summers sings the role of Charlotte’s father, Le Bailli. Since his recent hit production of “Carmen” at the Met, Director Richard Eyre returns with a new staging in 2014.
Admission is $22 for a Met member, $25 for adult, $22 for senior 65-plus, $15 for student (with ID), and $15 for a child 12 and under. Seating is on a first come, first-served basis, no reserved seats. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and there will be one intermission break during the live broadcast. Online reservations are available. Admission will be available at the door with payment by cash or check only.
