The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present the Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Verdi’s Italian classic “Falstaff” at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Cape Henlopen High School theater. This production is the fourth opera in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of live simulcast transmissions for the 2013-14 season.

This December, tenured Met Music Director James Levine will conduct Verdi’s comic masterpiece “Falstaff” for the first time at the Met since 2005. Robert Carsen is also returning as the director of this new production, which is set in the English countryside in the mid-20th century. Iconic basso buffo Ambrogio Maestri sings the role of Sir John Falstaff, the boorish, blustery character originally seen in Shakespeare’s “Henry IV” and “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”

Opposite him is an ensemble that includes Angela Meade, Stephanie Blythe, Lisette Oropesa and Franco Vassallo. "Falstaff" is a production of the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, The Canadian Opera Company, and De Nederlandse Opera.

The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and there will be one 30-minute intermission break. Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $22 for Met members, $25 for adults, $22 for seniors (65-plus), $15 for students (with ID), and $15 for children 12 and under. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
