RBFS to present 'The Other Son' April 24 and 25
For April’s Monthly Screening, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present the moving and provocative tale “The Other Son." The screenings will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at The Den at Bear Trap Dunes and at 7 p.m., Friday, April 25, in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway.
A compelling and compassionate family drama, “The Other Son” tells the story of two young men accidentally switched at birth - one is Israeli and one is Palestinian. The truth comes to light when Joseph, raised in comfort as the son of an Israeli officer, submits a routine blood sample in order to join the military. Yassin has grown up with an equally loving Arab family. As the households struggle to deal with the impossibility of their situation, a fresh viewpoint of the continuing Middle East conflict emerges, along with the eternal question of nature versus nurture. Can one or the other ever be denied?
In this case, gradual acceptance and finding common ground allows the two fathers and mothers to bridge the chasm of spiritual, ethnic, and social animosity that threatens to separate them from the sons they love and must now share. And how will the sons themselves deal with this potentially life-changing discovery? The film was directed by Lorraine Lévy, who won the Best Director at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2012. Cast includes Jules Sitruk (Joseph), Mehdi Dehbi (Yassin), Pascal Elbé, Emmanuelle Devos, Areen Omari and Khalifa Natour.
Admission for Monthly Screenings is $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for future members. Tickets will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-serve basis.
