Re-elect Bonnie Osler for city council

By Diana Beebe | May 05, 2014

Since being elected to her first term on the city council two years ago, Bonnie Osler has worked hard to meet the challenges we face in Lewes as it continues to grow. She has learned a great deal in those two years about the complexities of our city government, and we would be wise to take advantage of her experience and diligence by re-electing her for one of the two slots open on the council. In the two years since taking office, Osler has helped to make our city fiscally sound, working on responsible budgets with no tax increases. She has served as the city council liaison to the Lewes Planning Commission, the Scenic and Historic By-ways Committee, and Lewes Unleashed (the dog park project). She actively supported hiring a city planning consultant and drafted the request for proposals for that position. She also has worked to create better communication through emails to our citizens about city events, meetings, and initiatives, and she is leading the implementation effort for that communication. At the same time, she has served Lewes in other important efforts, working as a board member of both the Historic Lewes Farmers Market and the Greater Lewes Community Village. This is a person who cares about this city and works every way she can to improve it. If re-elected, Osler will focus particularly on what we can do to protect our quality of life in Lewes for the future by carefully analyzing the proposed subdivisions of Highland Heights and Point Farm/Harbor Point, and any others that come forward. She was responsible for proposing the moratorium on any development in the Marine Commercial District that was adopted by the council, and is eager to work on the best uses for this zone. She will examine the best uses for the building that currently houses our library, as well as for the large city-owned lot on Schley Avenue. She is working for better communication about those kinds of challenges. She has proven herself to be a thoughtful student, a good listener and a hard worker. Her legal background and experience in transportation, management, and policy development in both the U.S. Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security have proven invaluable
