Read a Movie series to present 'The Adjustment Bureau' Feb. 12
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Beach Public Library invite film and literary enthusiasts to a screening of “The Adjustment Bureau” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the upstairs community room at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library. "The Adjustment Bureau" is the cinematic adaptation loosely based on the Philip K. Dick short story, “Adjustment Team.”
This screening is part of the monthly Read a Movie series in which audience members are invited to read a short story in advance of the screening and then gather to watch the film version and engage in lively discussion about how the film compares to its original inspiration.
“The Adjustment Bureau” is a romantic thriller about young, up-and-coming politician David Norris (Matt Damon) who is on the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate. On a night when his votes fall short and he loses the election, he meets Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt), a woman like he's never known before. She inspires him to make a brilliant concession speech that clearly makes him the frontrunner for the Senate race in 2010.
Just as he realizes he's falling for her, a group of mysterious men calling themselves the Adjustment Bureau conspire to keep the two apart. David and Elise meet again by chance a few years later and are intent on seeing one another, but what they do not realize is that the men of the Adjustment Bureau will do everything in their power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, will David accept the bureau’s predetermined path...or risk everything to defy fate and be with the one he loves?
The Read a Movie series meets on the second Wednesday of every month at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library. After the film is screened, attendees share thoughts about how well - or not so well - the story was expanded to the big screen. The Read a Movie series is open to the public and is free. To receive the stories in advance, email Jamie Rousak at email@example.com or call the Rehoboth Beach Public Library at 302-227-8044.
The mission of the Rehoboth Beach Film Society is to promote the art of film and, through outreach initiatives, to entertain, educate, and enrich the cultural life of local and extended communities. The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
