Read the Bible cover to cover and decide

By Louise Archdeacon | Aug 09, 2013

In light of the recent letters and discussions regarding teaching an elective course on the Bible in the Cape school district, I would like to suggest that people get a free copy of the Bible from thrift shops and library book sales. Then with a highlighter and a pen mark up your copy of the Bible as you read it from page one to the end.

If you think carefully as you read and analyze the passages, I’m quite sure you will be astounded at what you are learning; I’m sure you will be quite taken aback. Then, read "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism" by the Episcopalian Bishop John Shelby Spong. If you had any doubts about the conclusions you had drawn, this book will ease your conscience.

At this point you will have no hesitation to express your opinion as to whether or not a course on the Bible should be taught in our public high school.
