Download the free Hurricane app from the American Red Cross for local and statewide updates on Hurricane Sandy.

The American Red Cross Delmarva Region is preparing for Hurricane Sandy, which may take aim at the Delmarva Peninsula as early as this weekend, and the American Red Cross is preparing to respond. The Red Cross Delmarva Region is working with government officials and community partners in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia to coordinate potential response efforts and it has placed all Red Cross Disaster volunteers on alert.

“We want everyone to be ready for the possible effects of a hurricane,” said Patrick Delaney, regional executive, American Red Cross Delmarva Region. “We encourage residents to review their emergency plans and their emergency kits. Emergency kits should contain a three-day supply of water for each person in the household, along with food that doesn’t require refrigeration, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, and a first aid kit. For a full list of supplies and other information, residents should visit redcross.org/prepare.”

Residents with iPhones and Androids can stay informed about Hurricane Sandy by downloading the free Red Cross Hurricane app, which will put Real-Time information and hurricane safety tips at their fingertips. The hurricane app can be found in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross. The hurricane app is also available in Spanish. Users need change the language setting on their smart phone to Spanish before downloading the app.
