Registration now open for Osher classes starting June 2

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Lewes has announced its 2014 June class session. The four-week session, which runs Monday, June 2, through Thursday, June 26, offers 40 classes for people 50 and older on a wide array of topics for a fee of $50.

“Our June session is a great way to get a taste of the Osher Lifelong Learning Program,” said Anna Moshier, program coordinator. “The fall and spring semesters meet for five and 10 weeks, and offer more than 60 classes each semester. We are now accepting proposals from anyone interested in teaching during our fall semester. ”

Course registration is open, and catalogs and registration forms are available by calling 302-645-4111 or going to www.lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes. Included in the catalog are brief descriptions of all classes and biographies of the instructors. Most classes are held at the Fred Thomas Building, 520 DuPont Ave. in Lewes.

Class schedules vary from one session to four weekly classes. Some of the new classes for the 2014 June session include Women Spies of World War II, Reading in Russian, Landscape Design, and Birds and Nature on Seven Continents. There will also be 18 individualized one-hour sessions of private tutoring on Microsoft programs. Some returning favorites include: Basketry Workshop, All About Railroads, Interesting Issues in Constitutional Law, English Country Dance and The Astrolabe.

Students may take as many courses as they like for the flat fee of $50. The deadline for priority registration is Thursday, May 15. Registration and payment are available at www.lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes or by mail or in person at the Osher Lewes office at the Fred Thomas Building.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at the University of Delaware are membership organizations that provide opportunities for adults 50 and older to learn, teach and travel with their peers. There are no academic requirements for admission except an interest in a continuing educational experience, participation in the program, and the membership fee.
