The Rehoboth Art League’s 75th anniversary year has spawned many diverse programs and events to promote the arts in Delaware. One of these is an updated take on the fashionable Salons of Paris, which date back to the 17th century. The monthly salons are creative and intellectual gatherings in the homes of inspiring hosts. Each month since June, the salons have featured a unique and vibrant art-related topic. Presentations are followed by a discussion led by a leading professional on that month’s topic.

The salons have been well received, and the limited seating for each sold out quickly. Two remain for this calendar year in October and December. Salon No. 5: Art of Glass Sculpture will be an evening exploring glass sculpture with talented local artist Deb Appleby of The Studio on 24.

Tom Holmes and Mario Rocha will host the salon at their home in Henlopen Acres at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17. The evening will celebrate turning sand into art. An informal tour of the hosts’ stunning collection will lead to a discussion of the many elements that contribute to this delicate medium. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Blue Moon.

Salon No. 6: Holiday Salon will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5. This salon will  kick off a celebration of the holiday season with an evening of festivities, tradition, friendship and joy. Strolling musicians will sing holiday carols followed by a buffet dinner, more music and singing, and other surprises. Barbara Carrow will host this salon in her lovely Milton home, which will be decorated for the holidays.

Tickets are $25 each, and preregistration is required. Tickets are available at www.rehobothartleague.org or by phone at 302-227-8408.

Several salons have been scheduled for 2014: Fine Art of Relationships Jan. 23, Russian Art Exhibit Feb. 15 and Art of Mixology March 27. Tickets will be available soon for the 2014 salons.

The Rehoboth Art League is a membership-based nonprofit arts organization dedicated to teaching, preserving and inspiring the arts in the region. For more information visit rehobothartleague.org or call 302-227-8408.

These programs are made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
