Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market to open for eighth season May 6
The Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market, voted one of the top 10 farmers markets for its size in the United States by the Farmland Trust, will open for its eighth season at noon, Tuesday, May 6, in Grove Park at the lighthouse circle, behind the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center. This market, rated as the No. 2 market in Delaware, will offer great, fresh, home-grown vegetables, fruits, and flowers from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through October.
Pat Coluzzi, the market master, announced there will be 34 vendors for the season, many returning for their eighth year, plus some new vendors. Prepared food will be available for lunch, which can be eaten at the picnic tables in the park or taken home. There will be entertainment, and on the opening day, Henry DeWitt will pipe in customers on his bagpipes, followed by Vicki Dee, a local favorite, singing a variety of pop hits.
The May 6 market will feature a Rehoboth Inspired Chefs Initiative cooking demonstration at 1 p.m. RICI represents award-winning Rehoboth chefs who are dedicated to healthy and delicious food preparation using local ingredients.
New this season is a cooking class with local resident Mark Betchkal, who will take students to the RBFM, purchase ingredients, then help them prepare the food in his home. For information and to sign up, contact Mark at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Check www.rbfarmersmarket.com for weekly newsletter information about the growing seasons of the fruits and vegetables. This makes it easy to plan visits to the market when popular items such as corn, tomatoes, and peaches will be available. Delicious recipes are on the website for easy and healthful preparation.
The Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market is true to its motto of “real food, real farmers, real community.” Coluzzi and the vendors will welcome the Rehoboth Beach and surrounding communities Tuesday, May 6, to continue the tradition of providing fresh, healthy, delicious, home-grown food products.
