Jan 09, 2013
Chief Harry Miller

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company installed its officers for 2013 Jan. 6. Warren Jones, executive manager of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association and a member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, conducted the installation.

Harry Miller, a retired Rehoboth Beach police officer and a current Delaware state fire marshal, was installed as fire chief. Gary Bailey, a Milford police officer, was installed as company president.

The other fire line officers are William "Jeff" Blizzard, deputy chief; Ralph Karl, first assistant chief; Chatham Marsch, second assistant chief; Leonard Marsch, third assistant chief; and Donald Mitchell Jr., chief engineer.

The other elected administrative officers are Ronald Blizzard, vice president; Dawn Lynch, secretary; Richard Mitchell Jr., assistant secretary; Ted Doyle, treasurer; Rob Dobak, assistant treasurer; and Joseph Wastler, executive member.

Bailey said, “One of the goals for 2013 is to continue with our capital campaign to raise the funds to build a new fire station 2 on Airport Road.”

The current Station 2 was started with a donated airplane hanger from the original Rehoboth Airport. Station 2 went into full service in 1987. Bailey said, “This station has served the community well, but we are in dire need of a new station that can support our mission for now and in the future.” The new station would have all the necessities needed for a volunteer fire department of today, including multigender facilities, a physical fitness room, sleeping and crew quarters, a classroom for training and adequate space for the parking of emergency vehicles.

Miller said his goals for 2013, “Are to provide the best possible fire, rescue and EMS service to the citizens and visitors of the Rehoboth Beach Fire Company District, as the company has done since 1906.” The fire company provides emergency services to incorporated areas of Rehoboth Beach, Henlopen Acres and Dewey Beach as well as the unincorporated areas along the Route 1 and Route 24 corridors out to and including the Angola area. Miller said, “We are always looking for more members, so if you want to make a difference in the community where you live, go to our website at www.rehobothbeachfire.com and apply today.”
