Big plans are on the horizon to celebrate the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival's 25th anniversary. Tickets are already on sale. There have been record-breaking sales since the tickets went on sale May 1, according to Dennis Santangini, president of the Delaware Celebration of Jazz, which produces the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival.

At 12:01 May 1 they were selling tickets at $1,000 a minute for the first 20 minutes. By the end of the day they quadrupled last year's sales for first day sales and some shows have not even gone on sale yet.

"This will be a very exciting jazz festival," said Santangini. Friday night, Oct. 17, will be at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center because they want to celebrate the 25th where it all began. They have added many more concerts this year to celebrate the 25th anniversary. This year they are adding an extra day and will be bringing back the best Taste of Jazz Festival. It will be held at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15.

There will be 14 restaurants participating in the best taste contest. It will be the best taste of the 25th anniversary Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. It will be a people's choice award because the attendees will vote for their best taste. In addition there will be a silent auction. Performing after the taste and silent auction will be Art Sherrod Jr. Motown show.

In addition this year, Saturday, Oct. 18, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. will be a free family concert at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand because this is where it all started 25 years ago.

The festival has expanded, thanks to the Highway One Group, to the Rusty Rudder deck and the inside bar. Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. will be free fan appreciation concerts, plus three more paid concerts in late afternoon and evening.

Most exciting to the expansion of the festival, there will be a major concert at the Bottle & Cork on Saturday night, and it will not be jazz-oriented music. They are waiting to make the announcement, so they are asking everyone to keep checking the website rehobothjazz.com for all the details.

They are working on their first Jazz Festival Fashion Show Saturday and an area designer clothing store is working out the details to help bring this exciting addition to the festival. Go to rehobothjazz.com regularly for updates and information and especially to order tickets.
