Rehoboth police bust brothers for burglary
Rehoboth Beach — The Rehoboth Beach police charged two brothers in connection with the July 6 theft of jewelry from a Prospect Street home.
Ryan Riley, 27, and Harold Riley III, 29, were charged with stealing jewelry from a home where Ryan Riley was working as an independent handyman. The Rileys were found to have pawned the jewelry at shops in Lewes and Rehoboth, police said.
Detective William Sullivan said the first time one of the victims noticed her jewelry was missing, she thought she had misplaced it. However, after more jewelry went missing over July 4 weekend, the police were called in.
Ryan Riley was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft and conspiracy, while Harold faces the same charges as well as resisting arrest, falsifying business records and selling stolen property. Sullivan said the additional charges result from Harold's attempt to flee when police came to arrest the brothers, and from claiming to own the jewelry on pawn shop documents.
The brothers were jailed at Sussex Correctional Institution in default of secured bond. Delaware State Police are also investigating Harold Riley III on unrelated charges.
