Rehoboth Sister Cities Association thanks community

By Pat Coluzzi | Aug 01, 2013

The Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association Board of Directors would like to thank a caring community for its generous contributions to complete Phase 1 of the Garden of the Navigators. A special thanks to more than 50 donors and major sponsors, including the Delaware Commission on Italian Heritage and Culture, Dominick Pulieri of Grotto Pizza, Nicholas and Joan Caggiano of Nicola Pizza, Sposato Landscape, Sal and Bette Gallo and Family and the Ciprietti and Curzi families of Touch of Italy.

The Garden of the Navigators is an enchanting 4,700-square-foot park featuring a pergola that leads to an Italian inspired brick walkway complete with a central compass, surrounded by beautiful plantings. The public is encouraged to enjoy the garden, located in downtown Rehoboth’s Cranberry Park, on the corner of Lake Avenue and Third Street.

Phase 2 of the Garden of the Navigators is now in planning stages which will add an educational element to the park. To make a tax-deductible contribution to Phase 2, please contact the Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association at 302-249-7878, or visit rehobothsistercities.org.

In 2010, The City of Rehoboth Beach and the City of Greve, Italy signed a Sister City agreement in Greve, in a gesture of friendship and goodwill. The cities agreed to collaborate for the mutual benefit of their communities by exploring educational, economic and cultural opportunities. This relationship was formed specifically to enhance the relationship with Greve, Italy subsequent to the installation of the Verrazzano monument on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. In April of 2012, Greve-in-Chianti dedicated a garden in honor of Rehoboth. In June of 2013, guest speakers, Rehoboth Beach Mayor Sam Cooper and Greve-in-Chianti Italian Mayor Alberto Bencista, joined hundreds of onlookers to unveil the Garden of the Navigators in Rehoboth.
