Salesianum is a much ballyhooed, bad news, physical lacrosse team that has a hard time filling its schedule with in-state opponents. The team is a moving target for any school eyeing a Delaware state championship.

“They have been rolling people," said Cape coach Jack Lingo after his shorthanded Vikings lost a 13-6 game that was even in the middle periods at 3-3 but saw a 10-3 scoring advantage to Sallies in the first and fourth periods.

The shots on goal were 31-26 in favor of Sallies; Tony Iammatteo had 9 saves for Cape while Ryan Kern had 7 saves for Sallies.

“The goal is always to win a state championship," Lingo said. “But from this point we’d like to make the final four and get through to the final game and see who’s on the other side. We have some big games left in this season beginning with playing at Saint Mark’s on Wednesday [April 24]. They’re another team that's hard nosed with some great athletes.”

Sallies senior stalwart on attack Craig Zebrowski proved an absolute nightmare in open space and riddled Cape with 5 goals to go along with an assist.

Sam Fink, Troy Reeder and Jason Kelly, all underclassmen, each scored 2 goals. Sean Giampietro and Martin Baily Martin also scored.

Blake Mann scored 3 goals for Cape while Connor Brown, Justin Lopez and Luke Benson each scored a goal. Michael Hopkins had an assist.

“Hunter Dailey did a good job on face-offs while Logan Mathews and Thomas Ott played great defense,” said Lingo.

“I’d like to get all our guys back and play them at full strength,” coach Mark D’Ambrogi said after the game. “It’s tough to play a team that good when you're missing players.”
