Sally J. Doak, registered nurse

Sally J. Doak, 73, of Millsboro, formerly a long time resident of Paulsboro, N.J., went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 10, 2013. Sally was born in Camden, N.J., Jan. 3, 1940, to the late Joseph and Edna (Johnson) Long.  She attended Paulsboro High School and graduated from Gloucester County College as a registered nurse

Sally is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bill; her two sons, Joe (Cindy) of Woodstown, N.J. and Don (Peggy) of Glassboro,  N.J.; her daughter Trish of Logan Township, N.J.; and her sister Jackie Pavone of Paulsboro.  She is allso survived by five grandchildren, Kym (Dave) Showers, Jason Doak, Megan Doak, Don Doak Jr. and David Doak. She was predeceased by her sister Ann (Tinker) Long, son William F. Doak III and grandson Andrew Doak. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Aunt Teresa (Joe) Burk; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special long time friends, along with her new friends in Delaware.

Sally was employed by Underwood Memorial Hospital before retiring to Delaware in 1995 where she continued her nursing career for Christiana Care and Beebe Hospital.

Sally was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Paulsboro and Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes, where she created the Sunbeam Worship & Study group for those who needed a little sunshine in the dreary winter months. Sally was always involved in something, always ready to lend a hand or give advice.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, Clarksboro Chapter, a member of the Billingsport Fire Auxiliary, a Cub Scout den mother, and a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed painting with the Delmarva Decorative Artists where she was a student as well as an instructor.  Sally was one of the founding members of the Paulsboro Volunteer Ambulance Association.

A memorial service will be held at Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 17.  In lieu of flowers, at the family’s request, please send donations to Conley’s United Methodist Church, Lewes.
