This year, Santa Claus attended the Annual Christmas Boutique and Book Sale held at the Biden Center Nov. 16. The lack of snow was no obstacle to Santa, who arrived on a red motorcycle with his dog Harley in the sidecar and spent the day raising spirits as families shopped for crafts, baked goods, and books. Friends of the Cape Henlopen State Park President Edna Lemiska reports that this year’s holiday event may well have been the most successful one ever.

The Christmas Boutique and Book Sale is a staple of the Friends' annual calendar of events which raise money to support the park. In the past, these events have enabled the Friends to build a playground and a bike barn and rebuild the Hawk Watch as well  purchase a new copier for the Seaside Nature Center, a radar gun for the rangers, a pump for the maintenance department, beach wheelchairs and benches for trails.

Friends volunteers also work actively to support the park, maintaining the bicycles in the bike barn and sponsoring the monthly Trails Day, among other things. The Friends Board has announced that the proceeds from the Christmas Boutique and Book Sale and October’s Wine, Beer, and Cheese Tasting will be dedicated to the purchase of a small vehicle called a Mule for the park’s Maintenance Department.
