Save Rehoboth from rookie mistakes

By Stan Heuisler | Jul 04, 2014

One cannot figure out Tom McGlone and his obsession to overturn the town's ocean outfall plans after years of public process in which he was absent. His obsession with "re-evaluating" everything Sam Cooper and the other commissioners have done leads one to deeply worry about his being a prospective mayor. Much less who is advising him. His recent letter is a scary example.

In search for an answer on ocean outfall vs. drip irrigation (his favorite because Mayor Cooper and public process are for the former) he reports he visited Middletown to see their drip irrigation process, which he sees as an example we should suddenly emulate. The fact he draws comparisons between a town of roughly 20,000 people in New Castle County with its low water table and Rehoboth Beach, a town of roughly 2,000 people in Sussex County with Its high water table is baffling.

And then there is his report on cost. He correctly cites the 2010 cost estimate for ocean outfall which was approved through public hearings and votes, with a public source. He then says "a recent estimate" shows drip irrigation is cheaper. No source for this. He just makes the claim. Any candidate, especially someone from the financial services industry, should realize unsourced and unsubstantiated numbers are what put the American economy in a ditch from which we are just recovering.

Tom was proud of all his "homework" on this. I didn't know they have homework in kindergarten.

Vote for Sam Cooper. He has the city in good shape. He has worked to preserve our traditions and the beach atmosphere we all love. Save Rehoboth Beach from rookie mistakes.
