Schwartkopf endorses McGuiness in Rehoboth
This is just a short note to the residents of Rehoboth Beach who will be voting Saturday, Aug. 9, in the election for city commissioner. While the choices are many, I want to talk about one candidate - Kathy McGuiness.
Many of you will remember that Kathy previously served as a city commissioner for 12 years and, after a break, she is ready to serve the citizens of Rehoboth again.
I have known Kathy throughout my own career as the state representative for the 14th District and now as Speaker of the House. She is a dynamic individual who gets things done. While many people are still thinking how to solve a problem, she has already developed her plan and is moving forward to correct the problem. She has endless energy, but she is always willing to take the time to listen to all sides of an issue to come to the best possible solution.
Kathy was the founder of Rehoboth Beach Main Street, which was very instrumental in helping the small businesses in town navigate through and survive the streetscape project which upgraded the infrastructure and modernized Rehoboth Avenue. It was a tough time and Kathy was there for them. In her role with Main Street she brought back the Fourth of July fireworks and has been promoting the town for 17 years with the fireworks shows.
She has been involved in almost every major decision for over a decade and she is still not afraid to work hard and bring opposing sides together. She is dedicated to making sure that city services are efficient and cost-effective - really, the backbone of the city’s responsibilities.
And, in true Kathy form, she is not afraid to pick up the phone and lobby me for state funds for various city projects and needs. The bottom line is that she gets things done. She will work to protect our beaches, boardwalk, parks, waterways and businesses and help to maintain the reputation that Rehoboth Beach is a safe and diverse resort town.
The residents of Rehoboth get to make a choice Aug. 9. Choose Kathy Mcguiness to keep the city moving in the right direction.
Rep. Pete Schwarzkopf
