An 18-year-old Selbyville teen faces attempted murder charges after police say he shot a next-door neighbor in the head.

Devon N. Gordon left his home in the unit block of Hosier Street at 3 a.m., Oct. 1 to meet a 25-year-old woman who was his neighbor, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

The two were in a Jeep parked outside the home when Gordon shot the woman once in the head, Fournier said.

A 49-year-old man who lives with Gordon and Gordon's mother heard a gunshot followed by banging at the front door. While the man was checking out what happened, Fournier said, he heard another gunshot and discovered a bullet had shattered the glass in the back door.

The man saw Gordon outside the home pointing a gun towards him, Fournier said. The man was able to disarm Gordon, but then Gorden went inside the home and got a second gun from upstairs.

Gordon's mother screamed to the man, who was able to wrestle the gun away from Gordon for a second time, but not before a gunshot was fired, narrowly missing the man, Fournier said.

Meanwhile, the father of the woman came to her aid until paramedics arrived. She was flown to Christiana Medical Center, where she is in critical condition.

Gordon was charged with two counts of attempted murder and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $310,000 cash bond.
