Sept. 20 forum to discuss sea level rise in DelawareSea Level Rise Awareness Week Sept. 14-22
A forum on the effects of sea level rise in the First State and what Delawareans can do to inform themselves will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, at St. Peter’s Parish Hall, Second and Mulberry streets in Lewes. The session is one of a series throughout the state during Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, Sept. 14 to 22.
The forums are cosponsored by Delaware Interfaith Power and Light, the League of Women Voters Of Delaware and the host churches. John Mateyko, president of the Delaware Board of Architects and a founder and board member of Delaware Interfaith Power and Light, will be the forum moderator and show a compelling video.
The Rev. D. Michael Smith, minister of the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware, will be part of the panel and speak on "Moral and Ethical Issues of Climate Change."
A scientist will speak briefly on what is driving sea level rise globally and locally. Sarah Cooksey, administrator of the Delaware Coastal Program of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, will talk about the extensive work of the Delaware Sea Level Rise Advisory Committee in preparing for the inevitable in Delaware.
