The 10th annual Georgetown Library 5K held June 14 at 7 p.m saw the wind suddenly drop out like an English student in calculus class, producing perfect conditions for runners who sometimes read, but would rather race and eat watermelon and miniature cupcakes afterward.

Enos Benbow, no stranger to Georgetown because he lives there, won easily in a time of 17:23.

Esdras Sanchez, 18, who also ran at Sussex Central High School, was second in 20:02.

“I got lost on the course, which cost me a couple of minutes,” a super fit-looking Sanchez said with a smile. “I can usually run in the 18-minute range. If I trained more, I’m sure I could run faster."

Helen Morrow, 43, a Georgetown Elementary teacher of special needs children, surprised herself by being the first woman in a time of 21:56.

A graduate of Council Rock High School and the University of Delaware, Helen started running five years ago.

"I train two mornings a week and run on the weekends. I just did cheerleading in high school," she said, ducking her head.

Emily Laz of Georgetown won the 9 and under age group in 26:41, while her sister Michelle Laz, 16, won the 14-19 in 25:26.

Sara “Popovich" Bushey ran 22:45 to capture the 30-39 age group.

Erik Fainas, 41, won the masters and is flirting with breaking 20 minutes, running 20:12.

Phil Wilson, 53, ran 20:21 just ahead of Eric Beam, 58, who ran 21:38. Beam is a former high school star from Springfield High School in Pennsylvania.
