Shame on Delaware's senators, congressman
The Oct. 16 vote to exempt themselves from the Affordable Care Act (AKA “Obamacare”) by our U.S. senators and congressman expressed the personal greed and monumental contempt for the Delaware voters that these three gentlemen (?) hold. Actions like this bring shame and disparagement on all elected public officials by the citizens of our fine state!
It was one thing for them to passively accept President Obama’s exempting the congress and the senate from Obamacare; he has taken many such liberties outside the law. This was shameful, and they should have declined via a vote.
However, senators Coons and Carper, and Congressman Carney have reached a new low in refusing to support the Vitter amendment that required the senate and congress to be covered by Obamacare, as the written law they enacted requires!
All citizens (not subjects!) of Delaware, and the Cape Gazette editorial board should remember this outrage during the next election cycle and elect someone else, anyone else!
In Slaughter Beach, the town council cannot enact laws that apply to everyone but the council members. Perhaps our constituents are not as lax as federal voters. Our federal legislative branch must operate the same way.
We have to suffer under Obamacare, the rules, fines, further scrutiny by the IRS, possible prison, while Coons, Carper, and Carney exempt themselves.
