Single-vehicle crash west of Lewes hospitalizes one
Lewes — Delaware State Police are investigating an early morning crash west of Lewes that sent one person to the hospital.
The incident occurred about 2:05 a.m., July 25, when Abigail K. Cellini, 21 of Milford, operating a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo westbound on Fisher Road just east of Hopkins Road, drove off the north side of the roadway and struck a utility pole on the driver's side.
Cellini, who was properly restrained, was extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and initially transported to Beebe Healthcare, but she was later flown to Christiana Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.
Troopers continue to investigate the incident. Alcohol may have been a factor in this case. Fisher Road east of Hopkins Road was closed for approximately two hours while a utility crew repaired the pole.
