Thoughts From the Sidelines

Snow in mid April?

By Sumner Spence | Apr 17, 2014

The Masters recap is all about Bubba Watson and Jordan Spieth. Bubba came out on top in the end by three shots over Jordan. Bubba's mediocre third round was completely forgotten when he hit one of his classic amazing shots on the 13th hole on Sunday. His tee shot went 356 yards up and over all the huge trees on that hole! He is just so entertaining to watch! This is his second Masters Championship, and I think he will be able to address the fame a whole lot better this time. Because Bubba has such a unique personality, he became an instant celebrity after his first win of the famous green jacket. But that win brought so much attention that it took him an entire year to play well again. I don't think he will have that problem now. It's time for him to focus on getting ready for the Player's Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Fla. in May.

If Jordan Spieth had won the Masters tournament, he would have become the youngest Masters champion in history at the age of 20. Tiger still gets to hold onto that record. He won The Masters at the age of 21 in 1997. That is still an impressive accomplishment in itself. Spieth is proving to be another very talented golfer and he will eventually win a major championship and may have the opportunity to break some other record. Hopefully Tiger will be able to return and play in the British Open so that the field of great golfers is full.

In other sports, the Flyers are playing their rival, the New York Rangers, in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs this week. This is a terrible matchup for the Flyers since they haven't won a game in New York for over two years! We will just have to watch and see what transpires.

Instead of hunting Easter eggs this weekend, I hope to spend some time watching my dad hunt for wayward golf balls IF it ever warms up enough.
