So much to see before summer’s end!

By Billie Criswell | Aug 21, 2014

It’s as though I turned around and summer's almost over. Before you break out your inflatable Santas for your yard, there's still some time to sneak in summertime fun. If you haven’t already, here are seven things you’ve just got to do before summer's over.

Eat your heart out

Get some Thrasher’s fries, Khor Bros. custard, Hopkin’s Dairy ice cream, the Dolle’s saltwater taffy and Fisher’s popcorn. These summer staples make the taste of summer so special. And when you’re done that, you must hit up an all-you-can-eat crab feast. The Surfing Crab in Lewes is delicious.

Toes in the sand

Get those toes out and plant them firmly in the sand. My favorite spots are Tower Road,  Fenwick Island State Park, and Bethany Beach, but there are endless great beaches from Lewes to Ocean City. Pick the closest one, grab your chair and soak up a little relaxation. If you can’t get in a proper beach day, then do what I do and take a long walk on the beach at the end of the day.

Bloody fabulous time

A good bloody mary is always near the top of my list. There's no better place to build your own bloody than at the Starboard Restaurant on Sundays. Choose from an array of mixers and enjoy one of the best bloody bars this side of the Mississippi.

Browsing about

When a vacationer comes to our town, they tend to hit the bookstore in search of a good beach read. It's very much a vacation indulgence. Check out Browseabout Books on Rehoboth Avenue and grab a book or magazine to read while you relax.

The Lewes stroll

Lewes is so quaint. You won't want summer to end without taking an afternoon to stroll around Lewes. Stop in Edie Bee’s candy shop and get some old-fashioned treats, browse in the antique store, and stop in for a juice at Nectar. Then, walk out and get a peek at all the boats. If you’ve got time, you should also take a walk through the city's old graveyards.

Fun and games

There is nothing like playing a few arcade games on the Boardwalk. And, seriously, who doesn’t want their fortune read by Zoltar? Awaken your inner child with a good round of fun and games.

Pick a bench and people-watch

People-watching is one of my favorite ways to pass the time. In the summer, it’s even more fun than usual. Pull up a seat.  There's so much to see before summer's end!
