Sound of Many Waters opens May 2 at Rehoboth Art League

Apr 23, 2014
Brooke Rogers' small color paintings from the Drive Train series with a large hurricane painting, part of the larger work, "Out of the Wilderness."

Sound of Many Waters: Drawings and Paintings by Brooke Rogers will open in the Art League’s Corkran Gallery on May 2. The exhibition will run through May 25 along with Detroit Drawings: Works in Ink by Margi Weir and Members Showcase: Juried Photography Exhibition.

Brooke Rogers’ drawings and paintings grapple with big forces such as God and nature, often through the lens of geometric abstraction. About his Storm Systems series the artist writes, “The proverbial storms of life are like messages from God. Hurricanes seem at first to be harbingers of disorder, but satellite images reveal the structural similarities of one storm to the next.”

Rogers' fascination with the ocean and hurricanes springs from his many years spent growing up and living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Rogers is still a Delmarva resident and currently serves as chair of Salisbury University’s art department. To preview his work go to www.brooke-rogers.com. Rogers will give a gallery talk about his work at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 4 in the Corkran Gallery at the League.

The public is welcome to the opening for all three exhibitions from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 2.
