St. Jude the Apostle to celebrate first anniversary of perpetual adoration

Commemoration scheduled Saturday, April 6
Mar 10, 2013

On the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday and the Feast of the Annunciation, St. Jude the Apostle parish will host a celebration marking a year of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. The commemoration will begin with a holy hour at the parish's Adoration Chapel, across the parking lot from the church, from 11 a.m. until noon, Saturday, April 6, ending with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Immediately following that ceremony, at 12:15 p.m., there will be a reception in the Parish Life Center with a cake, other confections and beverages.

Adoration of the Jesus Christ exposed in the Blessed Sacrament is an ancient practice of the Catholic Church which has in recent years seen a significant resurgence. St. Jude's has for almost 10 years had a program of Eucharistic Adoration called Open Door, which was meeting several hours a week.

A year ago, that program expanded to Perpetual Adoration. Hundreds of people now come regularly to the Adoration Chapel to spend time in prayer throughout the week, from 6 a.m. Monday through noon Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday - some assigned to specific hours, others as frequent or occasional visitors.

The number of visits per month now averages well over 5,000, and the chapel ledger in which adorers record their thanksgiving for blessings and favors granted abounds with testimonies.

One does not have to be a member of St. Jude's to come to the Adoration Chapel. All are welcome at any time. Anyone wishing to sign up for a specific hour of adoration, however, or who wants to come to the chapel between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. should call 302-703-2419 to discuss arrangements.
