St. Peter’s 47th Annual Art Show committee announces this year’s generous donors for the show’s Featured Artists Raffle: Michelle Marshall, Jennifer Kerper and Marjorie Samero. Each has donated a piece of original art created just for the event.

Michelle Marshall, a highly acclaimed local artist from Rehoboth Beach, is donating an original 16-by-20-inch, gold-framed oil painting titled "High Flier." Marshall, who is recognized for her luminous landscapes, says, “The open marshes, the ocean and bay and the ever-changing sky…where they meet and become one is the source of my inspiration, the jumping-off place."

Marshall was formally trained at the University of Delaware. She is a Signature Member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and is represented by the Peninsula Gallery. For several years, she served as a painting instructor at the Rehoboth Art League. She has participated in numerous solo and group art shows.

Marshall has earned multiple featured artist designations and awards for her extraordinary talent. She has donated her work for many local causes. One of her paintings was chosen by Sen. Chris Coons for display in his Washington, D.C. office.

Jennifer Kerper, an accomplished creator and designer of contemporary sterling silver jewelry, currently works from her Pennsylvania studio. Her donation to St. Peter’s 47th Annual Art Show is an original link bracelet, earrings and brooch ensemble of colorful flowers on a sterling silver background. The pieces are hand-fabricated using traditional metal-smithing techniques. They all begin as a flat sheet or wire and are hand cut, formed, patterned, soldered, and wheel- and hand-polished. The color is hand-pigmented paint set in epoxy resin. The brooch includes an organic patina. Kerper graduated from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in jewelry and metal-smithing/Cad-Com and an art education certificate. While in school, Jennifer studied in Scotland. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Jane D. Bonelli Art Education Award. She exhibits her work at various juried art shows and has won numerous awards for design and craftsmanship. She uses traditional metal-smithing techniques to manipulate raw metal into a series of pieces emerged from a single concept.

Marjorie Samero is a talented, self-taught artisan who creates wonderful stepping stones and table tops from concrete, river rocks, stained glass and sea glass. Her donation to St. Peter’s Art Show is an original glass mosaic, outdoor cement coffee table featuring an amber and rose glass crab.

After the tragedy of 9/11, Samero tried to keep busy with projects around a house she had recently purchased. She had finished waterproofing her basement and decided to place some pieces of stained glass and sea glass into leftover cement. Making that first stepping stone gave her a creative outlet she had never experienced before. She still has that very first stone she made and displays it in her shop with pride.

A local garden store agreed to consign some of her stepping stones, and they sold immediately. It took her years to perfect her designs, find the best type of glass, the most desired colors, and make a quality product that she was proud to offer. She always wants her customers to love their purchase and enjoy it forever. Now in her 13th year of business, she participates in more than 25 shows a year.

Raffle tickets are $2 each or books of six for $10. There are separate drawings for each item at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 6, and winners need not be present. Tickets may be purchased at the church office from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, or at the show. Proceeds benefit the homeless and those in need within the Cape Henlopen School District.

The three artists will be among 140 fine artists and artisans exhibiting at St. Peter’s 47th Annual Art Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 6, in St. Peter’s Square at Second and Market streets. Admission is free, and the event will be held rain or shine.
