N.J. man jailed in Milton stabbingTyrone Majette faces attempted murder, robbery charges
A 42-year-old Jersey City, N.J., man is in custody after police say he stabbed a 26-year-old Lewes woman in Milton.
Milton police responded to the 500 block of Union Street about 12:30 p.m., Jan. 24, after receiving a call of a stabbing in progress. H.O. Brittingham Elementary School was placed on lockdown while police searched the area for the suspect.
Police say Tyrone Majette went to his ex-girlfriend's place of employment for money. Majette and the victim became involved in an argument which led to the suspect punching the woman in the head and knocking her to the ground.
Majette stole the woman's purse and ran behind the shed of an adjacent property, where he armed himself with a knife measuring about 10 inches, police said. When Majette returned, the woman tried to flee him by getting into the back seat of a vehicle, but Majette got in the front seat and began stabbing the woman, police said.
The woman suffered stab wounds to the torso and neck. She was taken to Beebe Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. There is no update on her condition. Beebe increased its security in case Majette arrived at the hospital, officials said. A relative identifying herself as the victim's aunt said the victim "has a long road ahead of her physically and emotionally." She also said her niece had taken care of Majette for the past couple of years "as if her life depended on it."
Milton and Delaware State Police searched the Milton, Ellendale and Lincoln areas for the suspect, who turned himself in about 4:30 p.m. Police learned Majette had used heroin during the day. He complained of chest pains and was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital while in Milton police custody. He was treated and released back into police custody.
Majette was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, third-degree burglary, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, tampering with physical evidence, third-degree assault, theft and disorderly conduct.
Majette was processed at Milton Police Department and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $107,600 cash bond with a no-contact order pending a court of common pleas hearing.
