With another winter storm in the forecast and spring still weeks away, the cost of removing snow in Delaware continues to climb.

Delaware has spent more than $12 million to keep the state's 13,700 miles of roadways clear, Department of Transportation spokesman Jim Westhoff said.

Costs include salt, sidewalk clearing, fuel, supplies, overtime, pay to private contractors, and subdivision reimbursements for snow removal. So far, crews have used more than 77,000 tons of salt, and more than 570 employees have worked 79,000 hours of overtime.
