Stephen D. Ramey, skilled carpenter
Stephen D. Ramey, 59, of Delmar, originally from Blades, entered into peace Monday, April 8, 2013, at Delaware Hospice of Milford after returning to his beloved home of Sussex County after a three-week stay at two Pennsylvania University hospitals. Steve fought a good fight for those three weeks, but he was able to return to Sussex County for his final hours.
Steve was a special person to anyone who had the opportunity to know him. Steve was also multifaceted. A free spirit most of his life, Steve had many wonderful qualities that his family and friends will dearly miss. Steve was fun-loving, creative, a wonderful artist, a skilled carpenter, a sixth-degree black belt and martial arts instructor, a wonderful gardener and landscaper, an awesome dancer, a loyal friend, great with kids (and a big kid at heart), silly, humorous and good-hearted. Steve's passion for riding a motorcycle with his friends, or solo through the countryside, was an interest that brought much joy to Steve over the last several years. Steve and his love for life will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Anna Ramey of Seaford; his father, Gordon Ramey Sr. of Milton; his brothers, Gordon Ramey of Bridgeville, Scott Ramey of Charleston, S.C., and Roy Bowman of Washington state. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Bell of Lancaster, Pa.; and many nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dorothy Ramey; and his sister, Katie Mulvaney.
A memorial and life celebration service will be held in Steve's honor from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at Ramey Farm, 4778 Federalsburg Road, Bridgeville. Family and friends are invited to attend the service to honor and remember Steve's life and what he meant to all of us.
Arrangements are in the care of Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front & King sts., Seaford.
