Stop pressures placed on small businesses

By Jerry Lynch | Aug 04, 2013

Due to the increasing pressure on small business owners in the form of governmental fees and regulations, the Health Insurance Tax included in the Affordable Care Act is yet another example of government interference that will add to the woes of my small business and many others in our community.

Although the tax will be levied on health insurance companies, more than one-and-a-half million small businesses will be negatively affected in the form of higher insurance premiums in the marketplace. As it stands, I cannot afford to offer health insurance benefits to my six employees due to the high cost of insurance premiums.

If this tax goes into effect, it is estimated that the cost of insurance will rise by $500 per employee next year. This would be simply unsustainable for many small business owners who are already faltering under the weight of regulations and fees in the current economy.

Small businesses are the cornerstone of the U. S. and our local economies, and we deserve the right to stay competitive. Some members of Congress recognized this and proposed The Jobs and Premium Protection Act that repeals the unfair tax. My hope is that our community is aware of the effort and understands the importance of stopping the pressures being placed on our small businesses.
