The first game of the evening saw the Scorpions defeat the Jaguars by a final of 5-1. Raegan Ciabattoni had a pair of goals in the opening half to seal the win for the Scorpions. Madison Short then followed with a pair of goals to open the second half to put the game out of reach. Grace Hudson scored a solo goal for the Jaguars before Ciabottoni earned her hat trick with four minutes remaining in the game.

In the second game in the division the Rattlers and the Cougars battled end to end  (0-0) but neither team was able to score against their opponent’s defense.

 

The Scorpions play the Coyotes at 5:45 followed by the Cougars and the Jaguars at 6:30 on Wednesday on the Bermuda at Cape Henlopen HS.

 

Senior Division

The Surfers and the Pirates played end-to-end field hockey and after all the lead changes, the teams ended in a 4-4 deadlock. Vienna Iacona opened the scoring for the Surfers at 21:06 in the first half but Maci Long (11:18) and Jenna Steele (8:25) gave the Pirates a short-lived lead before Taylor Smith scored at 5:55 to make the half-time score 2-2. Emma Ludwicki again put the Surfers into the lead at 20”10 but Steele again knotted the game with her second goal at 13:55. Katie Maher then scored off a Steele assist to give the lead to the Pirates but Paige Ludwicki scored with 6:25 remaining to earn the tie.

The Warriors had to play catch up in the second half to earn a win over the Windriders by a final of 4-3. Isabel Carulli opened the scoring with her goal at 24:03 in the first half for the Warriors. Carey Karl scored at 11:55 to earn the first half tie for the Windriders. Marcella Sabbagh scored early in the second half for a Windrider lead but Anna Steiner countered to score for the Warriors at 20:04. Karl’s second goal again gave the lead to the Windriders but Hailey Sidibe forced another tie at 7:16 for the Warriors before Mia Carulli got the game winner for the Warriors at 4:06 left in the game.

 

The Surfers host the Seahawks at 5:45 followed by the Windriders and the Pirates at 6:45 on the turf at Cape Henlopen HS on Wednesday, July 2nd.
