Summer Spirituality Series offers 'Life and Beyond' Aug. 14
Dr. Aimee Wiest will discuss “Life and Beyond” from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Summer Spirituality Series in the Parish Hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 211 Mulberry St. in Lewes.
“Life and Beyond” consists of poems, prose and music providing sources for exploration. Quotations have been selected for consideration during the interactive session. The purpose is simply to offer opportunities to ponder many thoughts relevant to the topic as expressed worldwide over centuries by published others.
In addition to poetic and prosaic quotations, song lyrics will apply. The presenter will play piano so all can sing the words provided in an accompanying booklet. Of the hundreds of literary passages explored in preparation for this program, those chosen will also be available to all in print Related drawings and sketches will accompany the words.
Wiest earned her Ph.D in literature from University of Maryland College Park after completing a dissertation about poetry of Isaac Rosenberg. She taught English, journalism, and speech at several high schools and universities. She currently serves as a professor of African-American literature at Delaware State University and developed her syllabus by living and learning at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Each Thursday night through Aug. 28, expert presenters will engage participants in the parish hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Fellowship and locally owned King’s ice cream will follow each presentation. All are invited to attend.
In addition to providing spiritual resources for those seeking greater understanding of their own religion, or learning about others, Seekers uses the net proceeds from its store to help those in need, including the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, Doctors without Borders, work in Haiti and Centro Infantil in San Miguel de Allende.
