Sundance biathlon leaves the rough ocean and features an all-running event
Rough surf forced the cancellation of the swim portion of the Sundance Biathlon Aug. 24, but the crowd was not disappointed as race organizers added a quarter-mile sand run to take up the slack.
The altered biathlon course attracted 30 runners, with Mark Evans, 39, of Rehoboth Beach taking top honors in 24:23. Nipping at his heels was top female finisher Jennifer Boutin, 29, of Bear, who took second overall in 24:33. Kara Erskine of Easton, Md., Daniel Rosenfeld of New York City and Alan Ennis of Scotch Plains, N.J., rounded out the top 5.
Just over 150 runners took on the 5K race. Overall winner was Mike Sewell of Camden in 18:22. Female winner was Helen Morrow of Millsboro with a time of 21:30.
