Supper Club Jazz Show to feature Ron Cole Sept. 6

Aug 29, 2013

The Eddie Sherman Show will be featuring the jazz guitar artistry of Ron Cole in its seventh installment of the Supper Club Jazz Shows Friday, Sept. 6.

Cole is a fixture in the Wilmington/Philadelphia jazz circuit. and a veteran of jazz festivals from the Cape May, Clifford Brown and Rehoboth Beach festivals to jazz festivals in Thailand and Laos. He is equally comfortable with a Hammond-flavored blues groove or can swing it, reminiscent of jazz guitar icons Wes Montgomery and Grant Green.

Both these guitar legends seem to be references for Cole, who matches effortless lyricism with an exciting attack in his solo work. As entertaining as he is, there is a definite current of introspection in the mazy thoughts portrayed in every note and phrase he plays.

Cole has shared the stage with a vast array of jazz and blues greats including Diane Schuur, Stanley Jordan and Sonny Rhodes. He is a performer not to be missed.

Peggy Raley, a close friend for years and miles of jazz gigs, has shared the stage with Ron Cole on numerous occasions. “It’s a true joy to be back on the bandstand with Ron and his guitar. I’m pleased to work with him again and to be able to share his talent with all of our Cape Region jazz friends and fans,” Raley said.

Also sharing the stage are two stalwart players with The Eddie Sherman Show and masters on a jazz mission, Joe Holt on piano and Mike McShane on drums. Also joining is Ed Hrybyk, a young upright and electric bassist who is emerging from the Baltimore/D.C. area and is a frequent and regular bassist for Ron Cole. Hrybyk has performed alongside jazz greats such as Robin Eubanks, Wayne Bergeron and John Swana.

The show will take place upstairs at Saketumi, 18814 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, with dinner seating from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the performance from 7:30 to 10:30. Admission is $15 per person and tickets are available at www.eddieshermanshow.com or by calling 302-200-8937. Cash and credit card payments will be accepted at the door.
