A 28-year-old Lewes man faces burglary charges after police say he stole more than $200 in frozen food from Surf Bagel and returned a second time causing damage when he could not gain entry.

Jermaine C. Maker broke into the Route 1 eatery Dec. 16 and took $235 worth of frozen food after damaging the walk-in cooler, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

On Dec. 20 and 21, Maker tried to break into the cooler again, but was unsuccessful, Fournier said.

Police used surveillance footage and interviews with employees to determine Maker was the person in the video, Fournier said.

Maker was charged with third-degree burglary, three counts of possession of burglar tools, two counts of third-degree attempted burglary, theft under $1,500 and three counts of criminal mischief under $1,000.

He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $19,750 secured bond.
