A Sussex Tech High School custodian, who police say was harassing a current student, now faces rape charges in connection with a sexual relationship with a former student in 2010.

Timothy O. Morris, 29, of Seaford was charged with 25 counts of fourth-degree rape by a person in position of trust, authority or supervision, continual sexual abuse of a child, 25 counts of second-degree unlawful sexual contact and sexual harassment. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $208,500 cash bail.

In May 2012, a relative of the former student who is now 19 years old told police the girl was involved in a sexual relationship with Morris, a Sussex Tech custodian, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The 19 year old did not want to proceed with the investigation after police first contacted her, Fournier said.

On Jan. 9, Sussex Tech administrators contacted police about a student who said she was sexually harassed by Morris. The girl said Morris would seek her out and give her unsolicited hugs; in one incident, Morris tried to kiss her, which made her feel uncomfortable and scared, Fournier said.

Morris also obtained the girl's cellphone number through a social media network and he had sent her text messages, Fournier said.

Police contacted the 19-year-old woman on Jan. 10 and learned she began a sexual relationship with Morris in 2010 when she was 16. The two met inside and outside of the school setting and engaged in sexual intercourse, Fournier said. The relationship continued for more than a year and ended in August 2011, he said.

Morris has been suspended from his job with Sussex Tech pending an investigation, said Carolyn O'Neal, spokeswoman for the district.
