Sussex Technical High School junior Bansri Patel of Seaford, shown receiving congratulations from Gov. Jack Markell, won the BioGENEius Science Fair for the state of Delaware and will attend the national competition later this spring representing Delaware.

The BioGENEius Challenge is the most prestigious high school science competition in the world for original research in biotechnology. The Delaware Biotechnology Institute, in partnership with the Biotechnology Institute, coordinates the Delaware BioGENEius Challenge.

Bansri also placed second for 11th-grade students at the Delaware Valley Science Fair. The win qualifies her to attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May in Phoenix, Ariz. More than 1,000 students from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware participated in the fair, competing in 13 different categories. High school juniors who are winners are eligible for scholarships to Drexel University and the University of the Sciences, both in Philadelphia.
