Sussex Tech tops in county at Science Olympiad

Sussex Technical High School sent two teams to the recent state Science Olympiad competition. Sixty teams competed, with nine from Sussex County. Sussex Tech came home with first- and second-place trophies in the county and 17th and 23rd places overall.

There were 24 events in the competition covering a variety of topics from basic scientific methods and problem solving to advanced engineering competitions, including robotics and aeronautics. Many events covered career and technical education subject areas such as criminal justice, environmental science and health professions.

Sussex Tech earned 10 medals in six events. This is the second time in the last decade that Sussex Tech has won first place in the county. Half of this year’s competing students will return next year and are already excited about advancing on this year’s success.
